This year the Grand Council will honor: William “Bill” Fitzpatrick, Deputy Chief of Operations Yonkers Fire Department, as our 2012 Irishman of the year and Aide to the Grand Marshall of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade. William Fitzpatrick can trace his Irish roots back to his Great Grandparents who emigrated to the United States in the 1860’s. Anna Murphy and John Fitzpatrick came from County Monaghan and County Cavan, respectively, and maternally, John Maroney and Mary Whalen came from County Waterford. Bill Fitzpatrick married the former Debi Diodati almost 28 years ago. Together they have three children, Meagan 26, Tara 25 and William Jr. 24. Chief Fitzpatrick has been a lifelong resident of Yonkers and was appointed to the Yonkers Fire Department on July 3rd, 1979. Promotions to Lieutenant in 1987, Captain in 1991, Assistant Chief in 2001 and his current assignment, Chief of Operations, followed in 2004. Chief Fitzpatrick has served the residents in the City of Yonkers for over 32 years. Chief Fitzpatrick’s connections to the City of Yonkers, Yonkers Fire Department, Yonkers Firefighters Pipes and Drums and the Holy Name Society run deep. His support of the Yonkers Firefighters Pipes and Drums has helped them greatly since their inception in 2002, his ongoing efforts have yielded him the position of Honorary Member of the band. I hope you will join us at our Christmas Party as we celebrate with our Irishman of the Year 2012, for what promises to be an eventful and enjoyable evening. Fraternally Yours, Thomas O’Connor, President
